The Battery Creek Dolphins nipped Hilton Head Island 44-41 Friday night.
In the road contest, the Dolphins, who trailed 23-19 at halftime and trailed by two heading into the final period, benefitted from a 16-point outburst by Taquasha Lampkin, a 6-foot-1 junior. Gigi Forehand, a 5-10 senior, was Battery Creek’s next leading scorer with eight points.
Jayden Thompson, Dasani Dilbert, Kevia Sanders and Kendridana Shojgreen rounded out the Battery Creek scoring with seven, six, three and two points, respectively.
Freshman Chynna Sneed paced the Seahawks with 11 points. Da’Nesha Miller added 10.
“We beat ourselves with turnovers, but it’s something you prioritize to improve and move forward,” Seahawks coach Sean Rochester said. “We fought hard and held a lead almost the entire night but sort of lost composure in the last few minutes.
“We’ll learn from it.”
The Dolphins will return to action Saturday at Whale Branch. Hilton Head Island will visit Whale Branch on Tuesday.
