The Hilton Head Christian Eagles participated in their first cross country meet of the season at the Bluffton Scorcher 5K in Hampton Hall on Saturday morning. The event was dedicated to the memory of Bluffton cross country runner Grace Sulak.
Hilton Head Christian’s results were as follows:
Callie Haertel, 12th grade (59), 21:38; medal for second-place female (15-19); JC Bauer, 11th grade (84), 22:37; Dylan Sampson, 5th grade (101), 24:11, medal for third place male (9-12); Kevin Myhre, 11th grade (116) , 24:43; Max Arraj, 10th grade (121), 24:55; Mary Carter Buck, 8th grade (153), 26:13; Reagan Gilman, 6th grade, 28:37; Zach Whitton, 12th grade, 31:00; Sean Engler, 8th grade, 32:13; Nick Myhre, 11th grade, 32:36; coach Mark White (52), 21:12, medal for second-place male (50-59)
Sampson was the first 10-year-old to cross the finish line and he, Buck, Whitton and Engler set personal 5K records.

Nine Eagles qualify for state final
At the Northwood Academy Invitational Saturday, the Hilton Head Christian Eagles, coached by Melanie Hilton, qualified nine swimmers for the state final on Oct. 15. The Eagles came in fourth overall out of eight 2A teams.
New relay teams came together to set the bar high for the rest of the season.
Senior Captain Ashley Weaver said, “We've still got a long way to go, but I have faith in my team that we can pull it off by the state final.”
