The two girls tennis Lower State finals scheduled for Monday in the area have been postponed because of rain.
The Class 4-A Lower State Championship match between Bluffton and Wando (23-1), originally scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday at Bluffton, has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bluffton.
This is the first Lower State Championship appearance in Bluffton (15-4) history.
Bluffton head coach Bob Brown said the Bobcats have some personnel choices they will have to make.
“Options. Let’s use that word,” Brown he said. “We have Chloe (Thomas). We won without Chloe. We piecemealed a good doubles team. Karina (Szatmari) debuted at No. 5 and did a whale of a job.
“We’re going to try to beat whoever it is, so we’re going to try to figure out who gives us the best chance to win at the lower courts. Because we’re going to struggle at the top courts.”
Brown said last week his lineup choices would be a match-time decision. Thomas missed a the James Island match after a heat episode during the previous match.
“We’ll explore every option, though,” Brown said, “and that will drive us nuts. It’s nice to have options, though.”
The Class 3-A Lower State Championship match between Hilton Head Island (15-4) and Myrtle Beach (17-3), originally scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday, has been rescheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis Resort.
Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach have met in the Lower State final for three straight seasons, with Myrtle Beach winning the last two. Myrtle Beach won the state title last season, while Hilton Head won in 2012.
“We beat them last year, but I try to forget about that,” Myrtle Beach head coach Jeri Himmelsbach told the Sun News. “This will be a good, tough match. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play for a Lower State championship again.”
