Prep Notebook, Feb. 22: Two local wrestlers advance to juco nationals

Two area wrestlers have advanced to the junior college national championships to be held Feb. 27 to March 1 at the Spokane Convention Center in Spokane, Wash.

Battery Creek product DeAndre Johnson, ranked fourth in the NJCAA at 157 pounds, wrestles for 16th-ranked Spartanburg Methodist College. He advanced to the nationals by finishing third in the East District II Championship.

Hilton Head Island graduate Label Lewis, wrestling at 133 pounds for Rochester (Minn.) Community and Technical College, finished fourth at the NJCAA North Central Regional to advance. Lewis and his team are ranked 10th in the NJCAA.

PREP, HHCA HOOPSTERS NAMED ALL-REGION

Hilton Head Prep seniors John Eck and Randy Young, along with Hilton Head Christian Academy senior Brad Meccariello, have been named to the SCISAA All-Region 3-AAA boys basketball team.

Hilton Head Christian's Ziaira Doe, Macee Tamminen and Andy Anderson have been named to the girls team.

COLTRANE HONORED

Hilton Head Island's Jacob Coltrane has been named to the All-Region 8-AAA boys basketball team. Coltrane averaged 8.8 points and 4.3 assists per game this season.
