Prep Roundup, March 22: Hilton Head Prep baseball team racks up 29 runs


Hilton Head Prep 29, Memorial 8, 4 innings: Tyler Fox went 2 for 3 with a grand-slam home run in the first, six RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Dolphins (7-2).

JT Marbut was 3 for 3 with two doubles and six RBIs Hilton Head Prep, while Cole Gardocki was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. John Sheehan was 2 for 4 with three runs scored, and Jake Martin was 2 for 2 with four runs scored.

The Dolphins host Hilton Head Christian at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Pinewood Prep 3, Bluffton 0: The Bobcats (4-4, 2-0) fell to the No. 1 team in SCISAA Class 3-A.

"The boys played with a lot of guts," Bluffton coach Josh Fox said. "They showed character against a very strong SCISAA team."

The Dolphins host Battery Creek at 7 Friday night.

Hilton Head Prep 4, Cathedral Academy 1: Ryan Henderson scored twice and Mac Orie and Lucas McMillan added goals for the Dolphins (3-3). Henderson, Archer Brooks and Trevor Marbut had assists, while Zen Wiggins had four saves in goal. The Dolphins face St. Andrew's on Friday in Savannah.

Battery Creek 6, North Charleston 0: William Lopez and Manny Gonzalez each scored two goals, while John Saullo and Erik Barbosa added single goals.

Luis Castillo, Jimmy Sanchez, Manny Gonzalez and Trey Saunders had assists, while Miguel Mejia made one save for his second straight shutout.

The Dolphins (4-2 overall, 3-1 Region 6-AA) play at Bluffton at 7 p.m. Friday.

Hilton Head Christian Academy 2, Lipscomb Academy 1:

Tyler Chisholm scored off an assist from JR Moise, and Zach McCutchen added a goal off an assist from Nick Pirozzi to defeat the visitors from Nashville, Tenn.

HHCA is 6-1 (2-1 region) and plays its next game at home at 6 p.m. against St. Andrews Academy from Savannah.


Battery Creek 11, North Charleston 0: Kim Vigil scored four times, Cali Collier had three goals and Ruth Ekland scored a goal and had two assists to lead the Dolphins (4-2, 4-1 Region 6-AA).

Matalyn Dearsman, Ally Garcia and Marjury Gonzalez also scored for Battery Creek, which hosts Calvary Day on Thursday.

Hilton Head Christian 2, Pinewood Prep 1: The Eagles faced Pinewood Prep earlier this season, falling 2-1 on the road on penalty kicks. This time, Lexi Lainhart, with an assist from Hannah Reynolds, scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute for Hilton Head Christian.

"It was a really hard-fought region game," Eagles coach Ben Gerdts said. "We haven't beaten them for at least three years."

Audrey Bensch scored the Eagles' first goal early in the second half. The Eagles (7-3, 3-2) play at 4 p.m. Friday at First Baptist.

Hilton Head Island High 9, Hanahan 0: Sam Wammock earned the shutout in goal for the Seahawks (7-1, 3-0 Region 8-AAA), who play in the Airport tournament Friday and Saturday.

Ashley Ridge 3, Beaufort High 2 (PK): After ending regulation tied at 2-2 and going scoreless in the overtime periods, Beaufort High fell to the visitors 5-3 in a penalty kick shootout to suffer their first loss of the season in Region 8-AAAA.

Tori Owens scored for Beaufort High (2-1-2 overall, 2-1 region), which also scored an own goal. The Eagles take on Bishop England at 5:30 p.m. today in the two-day Airport tournament.


Battery Creek 12, Academic Magnet 11 (8 innings): After Academic Magnet went up 11-9, Laura Carter doubled, Augusta Schubert singled and Tori Hill hit a full-count, two-outs, two-run double to win it for Battery Creek, which had 19 hits.

Hill got the win, striking out six over five innings. The Dolphins (7-2, 6-0 Region 6-AA) play at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Garrett Tech.
