Prep Roundup, Oct. 7: Bobcats, Seahawks run at Wendy's Invitational

Wendy's Invitational:

Bluffton and Hilton Head Island High sent their teams up to Charlotte, with the Bobcat girls and Seahawk boys finishing seventh in their respective divisions at the elite meet.

Led by Casey Witkowski's 16th-place finish, the Bluffton girls took seventh of 26 teams in the 3A division. Sean McMahon, also in 16th place, led Hilton Head High's boys to seventh place out of 32 teams in the Open division.

Bluffton's boys were eighth in the 3A race, and Hilton Head High's girls were ninth in the Open division.

VOLLEYBALL

Whale Branch: The Warriors swept Bethune-Bowman and Estill in a pair of region matches Wednesday.

In the win over Bethune-Bowman (25-8, 25-14), Maddy Summerill led the way with seven aces, nine assists and three kills. Also contributing for Whale Branch (19-5 overall, 7-1 region) were Jamie Whalen (4 aces, 8 kills), Olivia Walker (7 aces, 2 kills) and Cassie Lewis (5 aces).

In the win over Estill (25-8, 25-9), Summerill had 16 assists, six aces and three kills. Whalen (4 aces, 6 kills), Kenyada Moultrie (6 aces, 5 kills) and Lewis (7 aces) helped out.
