Seahawks advance in girls soccer playoffs, 5-2

The Hilton Head Island High girls soccer team will make a return trip to Columbia for a chance at repeating as Class 3-A state champions.

The Seahawks defeated Brookland-Cayce, 5-2, on the road Monday night in the Lower State Championship and advanced to Friday's state championship at 5 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Hilton Head High (24-2) will face the winner of today's game between Eastside and Greenville.

"We came out sluggish," Hilton Head High coach Ernie Suozzi said. "... Once we settled down, we played beautiful soccer."

B-C (21-5) took an early 1-0 lead, but by the half, the Seahawks led 2-1.

Ashley Greene led Hiton Head High with a pair of goals, while Bridget Noonan, Emily Crick and Rebecca Johnston each had a goal.

Lauren Bush and Samantha Womack split time in the net for the Seahawks.
