Hilton Head High girls soccer team pounds another playoff opponent

Defending state champion Hilton Head Island High School is putting a scare into the rest of the bracket in the Class 3-A girls soccer playoffs.

The Seahawks steamrollered Chapin, 7-0, on Wednesday night at Hilton Head High to cruise into the third round. They have outscored their first two playoff opponents 17-0.

"We're putting the ball in the net, that's a good sign," Hilton Head High coach Ernie Suozzi said. "And we're keeping the ball out of the net, that's another good sign.

"Overall, I'm pleased with the way the girls are playing," he added. "I just want to keep our goalie bored, and keep the other one busy."

That was the case again Wednesday night, as Amanda Green and Emily Crick each scored two goals, and Ashley Green, Kelsey Fitzhugh and Rebecca Johnston scored one goal apiece.

"We must have had 30 shots, maybe more," Suozzi said. "We had a good run on it."

Meanwhile, on the other end of the field, Hilton Head High goalkeepers Lauryn Bush and Samantha Womack only needed to make two saves combined.

The Seahawks (22-2) will either face AC Flora at home or play at St. James on Friday in the third round.
