VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

Bluffton: The Bobcats split a pair of close matches in Savannah, losing to Savannah Country Day 25-18, 21-25, 25-23 and beating St. Vincent's Academy 25-22, 21-25, 25-20.

Bluffton was without star Mackenzie Cooler, who sat out with a knee injury suffered Thursday, but coach Al Stern was impressed with his team's performance without its standout hitter.

Abby Roulston led the way with 19 kills and eight blocks, and Jordan Franklin added 20 kills. Lauren Kendrick had four blocks, and Grace Collins had 52 assists.

Morgan Delaplane led the defense with 46 digs, and Jordan Underwood added 24 digs.

Bluffton (15-12) plays a Region 7-AAA tri-match at Battery Creek against the host Dolphins and Berkeley at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Hilton Head Prep 3, Pinewood Prep 0: Liz Buterbaugh had 14 kills, and Halie Parker added 10 to lead the Dolphins to a sweep of their SCISAA Region 3-AAA rival by scores of 25-12, 27-25, 25-11.

Buterbaugh added three blocks, two digs and an ace, and Parker had five digs and was perfect serving. Mackenzie Brown also was 15-for-15 serving with an ace and three assists, and Brooke Churchich had 20 assists and three digs.

Prep (13-8) plays Heathwood Hall at home at 5 p.m. Friday.

Bible Baptist 3, Thomas Heyward 0: The Rebels suffered a tough SCISAA Region 2-AA loss at home, falling 25-22, 25-18, 25-22.

Ashlie Layman had 10 kills, four blocks, three digs and three assists to lead the Rebels. Chandler Cook added seven kills and two digs, and Andrea Daring had seven assists and two blocks.

The Rebels (10-3, 3-3 region) play at home at 5 p.m. Thursday against Charleston Collegiate.

Ashley Hall 3, Hilton Head Christian 0: Top-ranked Ashley Hall swept the visiting Eagles 25-5, 25-2, 25-16, leaving Hilton Head Christian coach Steve DeSimone with the impression the Panthers will play for the SCISAA Class 3-A title.

Kelly Humes led the Eagles with four blocks, and Sophie DeSimone and Katherine Gehrt added two apiece.

Battery Creek: The Dolphins dropped a pair of Region 7-AAA matches at Berkeley, losing 25-22, 25-18 to the host Stags and falling 25-16, 25-15 to Cane Bay.

Against Berkeley, Sara Anderson had three kills, and Macala Barnard had two aces.

Against Cane Bay, Samantha Colleran had two aces and three digs, and Anderson added two aces and two kills.

The Dolphins (5-13, 0-3 Region 7-AAA) play another region tri-match Thursday at home, facing Bluffton and Berkeley.

VARSITY SWIMMING

Beaufort High vs. Battery Creek: Beaufort High's boys edged their rivals, 77-42, while the Eagles girls easily won, 131-13, in a dual meet.

Forrest Kimbrell (200 IM, 100 fly), Tommy Collins (50 free, 100 free), Elliott Gayken (200 free, 100 breast) and Andrew Woods (500 free, 100 back) each won multiple individual events for Beaufort High's boys.

Elizabeth Mandell (50 free, 100 back) won multiple events for the Eagles on the girls side.

John Lee had two top-three finishes for Battery Creek's boys, taking second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free.

VARSITY GOLF

Lady Thoroughbred Invitational: Bluffton High School posted an 18-hole team score of 327 on Monday to finish third in the 15-team tournament at Aiken's Woodside Plantation Club. Lexington shot 321 to win by four shots over Wren.

Brandi Hammonds led the Bobcats with a 74, good for second place, and Sammie Buchanan shot 75 to finish third. Kylie Nizolek shot 84, and Kasidy Beckel shot 94 to round out Bluffton's scoring.

Nathalie Lezcano shot 81 to lead Hilton Head High, which had a team score of 359.

The Bobcats and Seahawks play in a four-team match at Moss Creek Golf Club at 3 p.m. Thursday.
