Former rivals McPhee, Daniels to join forces at Allen

Arielle McPhee always said if she and Katrece Daniels ever played for the same team, that team would be tough to beat.

For a long time Beaufort High School's McPhee and Battery Creek's Daniels played as rivals on the basketball court. But that changed this week, when both agreed to play for Allen University.

The girls signed about half an hour apart on opposite sides of town.

"I've known her for a long time," Daniels said. "It will be real good to get a chance to be on the same team instead of playing against each other."

Said McPhee: "That's my buddy. ... I'm looking forward to playing with 'Trece."

Daniels averaged 14 points a game for Battery Creek while showing off her outside shot. She said her focus in choosing a school was whether the academics fit. Allen offers the music major she wanted.

Daniels said Allen coaches told her she had a lot of potential and would fit in well.

McPhee liked Allen so much on her first visit that she has returned several times. The Eagles guard, who ran the show for Beaufort High while filling the stat sheet, wanted to go somewhere small and found everything she was looking for at the private school in Columbia.

McPhee said Allen coaches liked the way she controlled games and wasn't afraid to be vocal with teammates.
