Prep Roundup, May 5: Beaufort High soccer teams win region titles


Beaufort High 4, Colleton County 0: For the second straight year, and fourth time in five years, the Eagles captured their region championship.

Andrew Settlemire scored two goals and had two assists to lead Beaufort High (15-2 overall, 7-1 Region 8-AAAA), which will host either White Knoll or North Augusta on Tuesday in a Class 4-A playoff opener.

Christian Faale and Kyle Clark had Beaufort High's other goals, and goalkeeper Nick Manos made four saves in the shutout, including one on a penalty kick.

Bluffton 7, Battery Creek 0: Akeel Crooks scored a pair of goals to lead the Bobcats to victory in their regular-season finale.

Dennis Nunez, Osmar Moreno, Julio Lopez, Nestor Rios and Jose Chavez also had goals for Bluffton (9-7 overall, 6-2 Region 7-AAA).

Chris Sullivan and Moreno split time in goal, combining for three saves for the Bobcats, who open the Class 3-A playoffs Tuesday, hosting a 6 p.m. match with Crestwood.


Beaufort High 4, Colleton County 0: The Eagles claimed their first Region 8-AAAA championship outright, cruising to victory on goals by Molly Murphy, Kaile Vuyk, Allison Blake and Grayson Lambert.

Vuyk and Blake also added one assist each, while goalkeeper Carson Moore made two saves for the shutout.

The Eagles (11-4 overall, 7-1 region) will host an opponent to be determined at 6 p.m. Monday in the first round of the Class 4-A playoffs.
