Beaufort High's Jackson to wrestle for Spartanburg Methodist

Kenan Jackson hasn't yet visited Spartanburg Methodist College, but he plans to soon.

He heard enough from the Pioneers wrestling coaches to make his decision sight unseen. The Beaufort High senior earned a scholarship to the school and will join the SMC squad next year.

"I'm hoping to win and do the best I can and win the big tournaments," said Jackson, who was a North-South All-Star selection and Class 4-A state runner-up. "That's the ultimate goal, is to win."

Jackson's other options included Coastal Carolina and its wrestling club or joining the U.S. Air Force and having his education paid that way. But after Eagles coach Bill DaMude emailed Spartanburg Methodist on Jackson's behalf, things fell into place.

Before taking the next step, Jackson said he hoped to find a job and would continue his mixed martial arts classes.
