SCISAA Class 3-A state tournament: Hilton Head Prep is in third place, and Hilton Head Christian Academy is in sixth after the opening round at Quail Creek Golf Club in Conway.

The Dolphins posted a team score of 307 and are 17 shots behind leader Pinewood Prep. Porter-Gaud is second at 297.

Tyler Williams led the way for Prep with a 1-over-par 73, followed by Kyle Eichelsbacher (74), George Hirsch (80) and Tim Godshalk (80).

The Eagles finished with a team score of 319, with J.D. Lehman leading the way at 72. Bryce Nimmer (78), Chandler Vilcheck (80) and Wes Miles (89) rounded out the scoring for Hilton Head Christian.

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes today.

SCISAA Class 2-A state tournament: Bennett Fultz carded a 5-over-par 77 and is in ninth place in the individual standings, and Beaufort Academy is eighth among 12 teams after posting a team score of 382 at Quail Creek Golf Club in Conway.

Defending champion Oakbrook Prep leads at 306.

Patrick Walker (91), Jordan Littleford (105) and Chris Huckabee (109) rounded out the scoring for Beaufort Academy.

The 36-hole tournament concludes today.


Hilton Head High 6, First Baptist 3: The Seahawks scored four runs in the sixth to take control, taking the lead on Desmond Bush's sacrifice fly and tacking on two insurance runs.

Charlie Wilkins, Brandon Johnson and Aaron Facenda also had key hits during the big inning, which made a winner out of reliever Matt Brown (2-1).

Brown took over for starter Sean Bartlett with the Seahawks trailing 2-0 in the fourth. Nic Levy earned the save.

The Hurricanes managed only four hits, and the Seahawks played error-free ball.

Hilton Head High (16-7) opens the Class 3-A playoffs at Hartsville at 6:30 p.m. Thursday


Bluffton 7, Wade Hampton 0: The Bobcats dropped only four games among the six singles matches en route to an easy win, as they improved to 13-2 overall.

Bluffton is 7-0 in Region 7-AAA play and will try to finish off a perfect region season when it hosts Hilton Head High at 4 p.m. today.

Hilton Head Christian 8, Orangeburg Prep 2: Luke Fuller and Blake Bishop scored two goals apiece to lead the Eagles. Josh Mousseau, Eric Farr, Nick Pirozzi and Ryan Emery also added goals for Hilton Head Christian, which hosts Hilton Head Prep at 7 p.m. today.


Hilton Head Christian 10, Orangeburg Prep 0: Audrey Bensch, Addy Bensch, Ashleigh McDaniel and Jessica Day each scored twice for the Eagles, who cruised to an easy win in their last tune-up before today's match against rival Hilton Head Prep.

Stevie DeSimone and Anna Catherine Graham also scored for the Eagles, and coach Ben Gerdts praised Summer Johnson for her play in the back.

The Eagles (9-8-2, 6-2 SCISAA Region 3-AAA) host Hilton Head Prep at 5 p.m. today.
