Whale Branch 12, Branchville 10: Dee Delaney got the win and also had two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Warriors to their first win of the season. Delaney pitched four innings in relief of starter Tyshawn Fields.
Timothy Campbell also had a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Whale Branch (1-1 overall, 1-0 Region 5-A), which plays at Hardeeville at 5 p.m. Friday.
Thomas Heyward Academy 12, Colleton Prep 1 (5 inn.): Zach Newton got the victory for the Rebles, striking out three in five innings. He allowed one walk and three hits.

Evan Duncan went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Taylor Cowart was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Newton had a triple and an RBI for Thomas Heyward (4-1), which hosts Calhoun County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Colleton Prep 1, Thomas Heyward Academy 0 (8 inn.): The hosts pushed across the winning run in the eighth inning to hand the Rebels their first loss of the young season.
Thomas Heyward's Wesley Sewell pitched eight innings, allowing just one hit and two walks.
Offensively, Taylor Ernestine and Brianna Kelnhoffer had two hits each. The Rebels managed just six hits in all.
"I was very impressed with our defense and very impressed with Wesley Sewell," Rebels coach Bob Layman said. "It's just our bats didn't come out of the bag today."
The Rebels (1-1) visit St. Andrew's on Thursday.
VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER
Hilton Head Christian 1, Ashley Hall 0 (SO): After playing to a scoreless tie, Hilton Head Christian's Anna Bensch, Audrey Bensch, Addy Bensch and Jessica Day scored during the penalty kick shootout to give the Eagles the victory.
Goalkeeper Ashley Donaldson made two saves during the shootout, which Hilton Head Christian won 4-3. Eagles coach Ben Gerdts also credited Megan Nadal with a strong defensive effort.
"We still have a lot to work on," Gerdts said, "and we feel fortunate to escape with a road win against such a talented and well-coached regional opponent."
The Eagles (2-0-1 overall, 2-0 SCISAA Region 3-AAA) play in the Viking Cup on Friday and Saturday in Macon, Ga.
Beaufort Academy 7, St. Andrew's 1: Miranda Weslake scored three goals as the Eagles opened their SCISAA Region 2-AA slate with a win at home.
Mary Catherine Carmody and Nicki Ozburne contributed two goals apiece for Beaufort Academy. Charlotte Delfosse made eight saves.
The Eagles (2-0-2, 1-0) host Patrick Henry on Thursday.

St. Andrew's 2, Beaufort Academy 1: The Saints scored with less than a minute left in second-half stoppage time to pull out the victory.
Patrick Walker had Beaufort Academy's goal. Goalkeeper Matt Bass made 11 saves for the Eagles (1-1 overall, 0-1 SCISAA Region 2-AA), who host James Island Christian at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Beaufort High 4th: The Eagles finished 27 strokes behind winner Fort Dorchester in the meeting of Region 8-AAAA schools at The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation in North Charleston.
Beaufort High placed fourth with a total of 175. Josh Fickes shot 39, Taylor Simonsen added a 44, Christian Connelly carded a 45 and Hunter Dean had 47.
Fort Dorchester shot 148 for the win. Ashley Ridge (165) was second, followed by Summerville (174), the Eagles and Colleton Prep (204).
Beaufort High hosts the next matchup of region rivals, next Tuesday at Dataw Island.
VARSITY BOYS LACROSSE
Bluffton 17, Beaufort High 9: Taylor McDonnell had five goals, Britton Baker scored three times and added two assists and the Bobcats earned their second win in seven outings.
Ricky Ramirez, Adam Moody and Colton Preston scored two goals apiece for Bluffton. Moody and Preston each added an assist.
T.J. Ratzel made 25 saves for Bluffton (2-5).
