VARSITY WRESTLING

Region 8-AAAA tournament (Wednesday): Nine Beaufort High School wrestlers placed in the top three in their weight classes at the Region 8-AAAA tournament, earning them spots in the Lower State qualifier at Fort Dorchester on Feb. 18-19.

Beaufort High claimed four individual titles, with Kenan Jackson (160 pounds), Clint Wright (171), Thyrik Legree (189) and Maliek Maldonado (215) winning their weight classes and earning all-region honors. E.J. Johnson (135), Trey Arant (145), Zach Brown (152) and Codrian Smalls (285) placed second, and Clayton Wynn (130) took third.

The Eagles will open the Class 4-A dual playoffs Saturday at Stratford. They face Lexington in the first round, with the winner moving on to face the winner of a first-round match between Stratford and Irmo.
