As a 5-year-old, like many young athletes, Will McCarty made it his goal to play college soccer and then take the next step to the pros.
Unlike most, McCarty can cross the first goal off his list.
The Hilton Head High senior signed with Erskine College on Wednesday to continue his soccer career.
"It's been my dream for a long time," McCarty said. "I always wanted to be a professional player, but that probably won't happen. Playing in college, though, is really exciting. I'm excited to take my talent to the next level."

McCarty isn't exactly sure yet where he will be utilizing those talents. In his high school career, he has seen time at forward, midfield and defender. While he says he prefers to play up front, he admits defense may be his best attribute.
"Coach (Warren Turner) told me I'm a utility guy because I can play anywhere," McCarty said. "That's what he liked a lot about me."
