Beaufort Academy 59, Providence Christian (Ga.) 37: Beaufort Academy raced out to a 22-6 first quarter lead and cruised from there to pick up a win in its season opener.

Preston Suber scored 15 points, with 11 coming in the first quarter. Jordan Littleford had nine points and 12 rebounds. Jack Griffith added nine points, and Bennett Fultz scored eight.

Beaufort Academy has a two-week layoff before opening its SCISAA Region 1-AA schedule Dec. 7 against Cathedral Academy.

Thomas Heyward 51, Colleton Prep 25: JA Malphrus scored 16 points, and Don Simmons had 14 to lead host Thomas Heyward to a convincing victory in the opening round of the Coca-Cola Classic in Ridgeland.

J.D. Tuten added eight points and Will Richardson had five for the Rebels (1-0), who advance to face St. Andrew's in tonight's championship game. St. Andrew's beat Dorchester Academy 67-28 in the other semifinal.

Jordan Mitchell scored eight points to lead Colleton Prep.


Beaufort Academy 46, Providence Christian (Ga.) 27: Katherine Neal and Megan DeBardelaben each had double-doubles as the short-handed Eagles picked up their first win of the season.

Neal had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and DeBardelaben finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Taylor Vincent -- one of four eighth-graders playing for Beaufort Academy because of players on vacation -- finished with eight points. Fellow eighth-grader McKenzie Blake had two points and 10 boards. Charlotte Delfosse added nine steals, five points and three blocks, and Casey Kahn scored two points for the Eagles (1-1).

Beaufort Academy's next game will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 against Cathedral Academy.

Thomas Heyward 51, Colleton Prep 37: The Rebels opened their season with a win over Colleton Prep in the first round of the Coca-Cola Classic in Ridgeland, advancing to tonight's championship game. Thomas Heyward (1-0) will face Dorchester Academy in the finals. The Raiders beat St. Andrew's 37-2 in the other semifinal.
