Three local football players named to North-South game

The offense usually gets the glamor, but a trio of Beaufort County football defenders have been rewarded for their strong seasons with invitations to represent the southern half of the state in the annual North-South All-Star Football Game.

Bluffton High School's Lewis Black and Anthony Gardner and Beaufort High School's Detrell Gantt are part of the South team's roster for the game, which will be played at noon Dec. 11 at Myrtle Beach High School's Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

  • 2010 stats: 136 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 2 INTs
  • Anthony Gardner, DL, Bluffton

  • Senior key in helping Eagles' defense allow only 13.5 points per game
