VARSITY GOLF

Region 7-AAA meet: Hilton Head High and Bluffton both qualified for the Lower State golf tournament by placing in the top two in the Region 7-AAA match in Berkeley. The Seahawks won the meet with a team score of 303, led by Lily Bartell's 74. Bluffton finished with a 318, led by medalist Kylie Nizolek's 72. Berkeley took third with a 373. Lower State is set for Oct. 18 at Beech Creek Golf Club in Sumter.

Bluffton 6, Cane Bay 1: Bluffton's No. 1 singles player Charlotte Loper cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Cane Bay's Allison Hager and the rest of the Bobcats followed suit. Bluffton (6-3, 4-0) will host Battery Creek at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Porter-Gaud 6, Hilton Head Prep 3: Porter Gaud's Deni Skontarova pulled out a key victory at No. 3 singles, defeating Maggi Colket 10-5 in a super tiebreak. Moments later at No. 2 singles, Porter-Gaud's Annie Hay pulled out her match against Hilton Head Prep's Kate Christensen, 12-10 in the second-set tiebreak.

Hilton Head Prep (5-3, 3-3) will travel to Ashley Hall at 4 p.m. today. The match will be played at the Charleston Tennis Center.

Hilton Head Christian 5, Beaufort Academy 1: Hilton Head Christian improved to 4-7 on the season with impressive wins from seniors Lauren Ziegler and Emily Cranston, playing in their final match in Beaufort County for the Eagles. Ziegler won 6-1, 6-1, while Cranston earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Francesca Guidobono added an easy win, but the remaining three singles matches went to third-set tie-breaks, with eighth graders Monica Bundy and Audrey Bennet notching wins to seal the victory for HHCA.

Thomas Heyward 3, St. Andrew's 0: Ashlie Layman had four kills, two aces, two digs and six assists, leading Thomas Heyward to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-6 victory.

Kayla Sanders had nine aces and three digs, Chandler Cook had five kills and two aces and Andrea Daring had four kills, two aces and four assists.

Thomas Heyward (9-6, 7-3) will host Cathedral Academy at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Beaufort High 2, Fort Dorchester 0: The Eagles swept past their Region 8-AAAA opponent, winning by scores of 25-22 and 25-18.

Deja Jackson had seven kills and two blocks to lead Beaufort at the net. Alexia Neal finished with four kills, 13 digs and four aces. Amber Gant had three kills, 14 digs, and three aces. Mykalah Smalls chalked up six kills, four digs and three aces. Amber Moloney added 13 digs and 3 aces. Kayla Ferguson had eight digs and a team-high 16 assists. Amber Clatterbuck and Ashley Tillery had eight digs apiece.

Beaufort High (6-7 overall, 6-3 region) will host Stratford on Tuesday.

Colleton County tri-match: Battery Creek split its tri-match at Colleton County, losing to Summerville 25-11, 25-17, and then beating the host team 25-16, 25-12.

Margie Craven had three aces and two blocks, Sara Anderson had three aces and one kill, Ciara Lelie had five aces and six kills, Sharea Walls had one ace and two kills and Tina Qwok had six digs.

Battery Creek (10-8) will travel to Berkeley for a 5:30 p.m. tri-match on Tuesday. Cane Bay will also be there.
