Oct. 2 prep roundup: Hilton Head High cross country teams shine at Wendy's Invitational

Wendy's Invitational: Hilton Head High turned in its fastest team average in school history on Saturday at the prestigious Wendy's Invitational at McAlpine Greenway Park in Charlotte.

The boys team placed second out of 32 teams in the open division, losing a tiebreaker to winner Hardin Valley (Tenn.). Of the 99 teams in all three divisions, the Seahawks had the second-best time.

Jack Felix finished second overall in 15 minutes, 43 seconds. Jack Manesiotis was fourth in 15:45. Mackenzie Johnston was ninth in 16:14, T.J. Melanson was 15th in 16:26 and Sean McMahon was 24th in 16:39.

The Hilton Head High girls team was third out of 29 teams. Sara Manesiotis was second overall in field of 190 runners, finishing in 18:31.

Rosie Dungan was 17th in 19:51, Faith Lifer was 20th in 20:00, Abi Short was 38th in 20:26 and Carley McGlinn was 42nd in 20:32.

Bluffton ran in the Class 3-A division.

The Bluffton girls team placed 10th out of 28 teams. Scottie House led the way with a time of 20:25, finishing 24th overall to medal.

Casey Witkowski was 41st in 20:47, Madison Putich was 44th in 20:59, Alex Bailey was 64th in 21:28 and Lea Tierney was 88th in 22:14.

The Bluffton boys team placed 10th out of 31 teams.

Anthony Cecchio was 17th in 16:43 to earn medalist honors. Demetrius Smalls was 36th in 17:02, Harris Reeves was 42nd in 17:11, Landon House was 72nd in 17:44 and Clark Sinclair was 83rd in 17:55.

Great American Cross Country Festival: The Beaufort High girls placed eighth in the white race of the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C.

Madeline Aune was 22nd in 21:03, Teylor Phetkhamyath was 40th in 22:13, Alex Zapp was 52nd in 22:57, Eliza Rhodes was 55th in 23:03 and Savannah Lehnert was 62nd in 23:51.

The Beaufort High boys team took sixth in the white race. Timothy Aune was seventh in 17:07, Mark Rennix was 14th in 17:21, Darrin Sawn was 29th in 17:44, Terae Davis was 56th in 18:57 and David Butt was 58th in 18:59.


Region 7-AAA meet: Bluffton and Hilton Head High swapped positions in the Region 7-AAA meet at Battery Creek. Bluffton won the boys meet and took second in the girls.

Hilton Head High won the girls and took second in the boys.

For Bluffton, Madison Wall won the 50 freestyle in 25.90.

The 200 medley relay team of John Evans, Patrick Calvo, Jake Minasi and Drew O'Brien took first in a time of 2:00.25.

Sebastian Bedon won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.94.

O'Brien won the 50 free in 25:10, Bedon won the 100 butterfly in 57.37, Andrew Faciszewski won the 500 free in 5:05.34 and Robbie Skinner won the 100 back in 56.44.

The 200 free relay won in 1:53.54 and the 400 free relay won in 3:35.22.
