High school football provides an odd dynamic in the fact that not all the games truly count. Sure, a team wants to win every game. And you could also argue that a team gains momentum with wins and loses it just as quickly with a loss.
But my point is only the region records are applied when deciding which teams play in November. And that’s why this is my favorite football week of the year. Region play begins this week.
Hilton Head High didn’t exactly start off on the right track, falling 55-14 at Berkeley on Thursday night. The Bobcats, on the other hand, are off to a 5-0 start, but even that means nothing if they can’t find a way to roll over the success tonight against Lake Marion, in what I view as a must-win game if they want to host a playoff game next month.
