Teenage sensation Jordan Spieth will compete in the 45th annual RBC Heritage Presented By Boeing, taking place April 15-21 over the famed Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island thanks to a sponsors exemption.
The RBC Heritage only has four exemptions to award this year compared to the usual eight due to changes made by the PGA Tour. Exemptions have already been awarded to Camilo Villegas and Players Amateur Champion Daniel Nisbet.
Nineteen-year-old Spieth officially joined the PGA Tour late last week as a special temporary member, which means he is eligible for an unlimited number of sponsor exemptions in 2013. The temporary status makes him the youngest player on tour, but that hasn't stopped him from competing like a veteran. He has played in four events this season, has made three cuts, earned two top 10s and has made more than $500,000. He announced his commitment to the RBC Heritage on Wednesday during a media conference at the Shell Houston Open.
The Dallas, Texas native's early success on the PGA Tour has come after a successful amateur career. He is the only golfer other than Tiger Woods to have won the U.S. Junior Amateur multiple times. He played college golf at the University of Texas and in his freshman year helped his team win the NCAA Division I Championship. He tied for 21st and was the low amateur at last year's U.S. Open.
