Beaufort High School's Josh Fickes will look to defend his title when the S.C. Golf Association's Junior Championship tees off Tuesday at Willow Creek Golf Club in Greer.
The last player to successfully defended the S.C. Junior Championship was Tommy Biershenk Jr. in 1990-1991. Ironically, Fickes, like Biershenk, will attend Clemson.
Several other area golfers are likely contenders, as well.
Bluffton's Trace Crowe, an Auburn commit, recently won the Carolinas Golf Association's Creed Junior Boys Championship at Camden Country Club. Bryson Nimmer, Crowe's Hilton Head Christian Academy teammate and the 2013 SCJGA Jimmy Self Champion would like to join his father Tony as a state champion. The elder Nimmer took the title in 1978.
