Local Golf Notebook, July 25: Hank Haney IJGA students to play in event in Scotland

Nicholas Russell of Hilton Head Island and Yuki Nakayama of Bluffton have been selected to participate in the International Junior Golf Tour's Euro Cup held July 31 to Aug. 2 in St. Andrews, Scotland.

The golfers, both Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy students, are two of 14 players from 10 states to compete for IJGT Team USA versus the Canadian Junior Golf Association and The FIFE (Scotland). The competition includes six rounds (three practice, three competitive) in Scotland at Scotscraig Golf Club, Leven Golf Club and Drumoig Golf Club.

The Sea Pines Resort -- host of the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links -- has opened a new state-of-the-art driving range to service its Heron Point by Pete Dye and Ocean courses.

The facility features brand new target greens, chipping areas and practice greens. Tim Cutshall of IA Sports consulted on the design. He has worked on similar designs for premier golf properties including Balturstrol, Old Palm, Breakers West and TPC Sawgrass.

A new clubhouse and golf learning center for Heron Point and the Ocean Course will open in early 2014.

"This outstanding new practice facility continues our quest to provide a world-class golf experience for both our members and guests," Sea Pines vice president of sports and operations Cary Corbitt, said in a release.
