Local golf notebook, March 28: Area golfers win junior events

Hilton Head Island's Nicholas Russell shot an 83 Saturday to defeat Hank Haney International Golf Academy student Kevin Ying by three strokes in the Boys Under 14 Division of the International Junior Golf Tour's Lowcountry Junior.

The event, held at Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie, was shortened to 18 holes because of rainy weather.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, Luke Tetreault, a full-time student at Hank Haney's International Junior Golf Academy, shot a 73 to defeat classmate Matt Cheng by a stroke.

In the Girls Under 19 Division, IJGA student Ceha Lee won with a final-round 80 over classmate Margine Arguello.


Hardeeville's Jonathan Phillips won the Boys 15-18 Division crown of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour's Hilton Head Junior Shootout at Eagle's Point Golf Club this past weekend.

In the Girls 15-18 Division, Anita Uwadia took the title over IJGA teammate Isadora Quevedo.

Drew Weary of Bluffton finished second in the Boys 11-14 Division.


Chuck Scarminach hit a hole-in-one March 10 on the fourth hole at Sea Pines Country Club. Witness was Tony Oliva.

Billy Sterne hit a hole-in-one March 7 on the fourth hole at Sea Pines Country Club. He used a 6-iron. Witnesses were Michael Tucker, Dick Boyce, and Jim Hooper.

Chandler Russell hit a hole-in-one Jan. 4 on the 12th hole at Bear Creek Golf Club. He used a 5-iron. Witnesses were Grady Horton and Phil Murphy.
