USC Beaufort golfers Samantha O'Donnell and Brad Curren were named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Teams on Thursday.
O'Donnell, a senior from Hilton Head Island, was among 11 student-athletes named to the District 1 College Division women's at-large team, and Curren, a junior from Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, was among 11 named to the men's at-large team.
The at-large teams are made up of student-athletes in 13 women's sports and 12 men's sports. USCB's district is made up of NAIA and NJCAA schools from 23 states throughout the East and Southeast regions.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Curren, who carries a 3.72 GPA majoring in Business Administration, was honored for the second consecutive year. O'Donnell, a recent graduate with an English degree, took a 3.44 GPA into her final semester at USCB and was selected for the first time.
The CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America awards are the most prestigious awards that recognize student-athletes for their combined performance in their sport and in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his or her current institution and be nominated by his or her sports information director.
