Freshman Franzi Knoetsch claimed the individual title and led the USC Beaufort women's golf team to a runner-up finish Tuesday at the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational at St. Simons Island, Ga.
Knoetsch carded a 2-over-par 74 at King & Prince Golf Course despite difficult weather conditions in the final round — six shots better than the second-best round of the day. The freshman from Germany finished at 81-74—155, edging Thomas' Caroline Parrish by one shot for her first collegiate victory.
The Sand Sharks followed an opening 340 on Monday with a 336 to finish at 676, 12 shots behind Thomas.
All five USCB players finished in the top 30 in the 62-player field. Samantha O'Donnell (84-89—173) tied for 17th, Tori DeGroodt (83-92—175) tied for 20th, Moa Kristenson (92-89—181) tied for 28th and Emily Turner (98-84—182) tied for 30th.
Next up for the Sand Sharks is the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate on the Osprey Point Golf Course from March 1-3.
