The accolades are still rolling in from the best season in USC Beaufort's brief baseball history, as head coach Bryan Lewallyn last week was named the Rawlings-NAIA Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year during the 2013 Rawlings-NAIA Hall of Fame and Awards Luncheon.
While serving as USCB's interim head coach during the 2012 season, Lewallyn led the Sand Sharks to a school-record 41 wins against 19 losses and their first trip to the Avista-NAIA World Series.
Lewallyn was rewarded by being named the second head coach in USCB baseball's four-year history, succeeding Rick Sofield.
Lewallyn and the Sand Sharks began preparations for the 2013 season Monday. They are scheduled to open the campaign Feb. 2 with a home doubleheader against Shawnee State at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
