USCB women finish 18th; California Baptist wins NAIA title

California Baptist defeated Embry-Riddle on the first hole of a team playoff to claim its first title at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship, while USC Beaufort slipped one spot Thursday at Link Hills Golf and Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.

The Sand Sharks shot 337 in the final round to finish in 18th place at 1326. Kelli Nakano and Adriana Saavedra tied for the top finish for USCB, finishing in a tie for 61st at 328. Sophie Henke tied for 68th, Phyllis Langley was 93rd and Kendra Collins tied for 96th.

Former Bluffton High School golfer Heather Wiquist shot 80 in the final round and finished 52nd. She helped Embry-Riddle finish tied with California Baptist at 1252, sending all 10 players from the two teams to the par-4 fourth hole for a playoff.

California Baptist's Sara Koizumi made a birdie to give the Lancers the edge, and Kirsten Keyser made a clinching par putt.
