USCB women continue to improve at NAIA championship

The USC Beaufort women's golf team posted its best score of the first three days of the NAIA National Championship on Thursday, moving up one spot to 17th in the team standings, while former Bluffton High School golfer Heather Wiquist and Embry-Riddle took over the top spot.

The Sand Sharks shot 324 in the third round at Link Hills Golf and Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn., bettering their second-round score by one shot. Kelli Nakano led the way with a 5-over-par 78, her best score of the tournament, to move up to a tie for 61st. Sophie Henke shot 83 and continues to hold the top spot for USCB in a tie for 37th.

Embry-Riddle moved into the lead at 943, two shots ahead of California Baptist and seven shots clear of Oklahoma City and Shorter. Wiquist carded an 81 and is tied for 49th.

The Sand Sharks will tee off starting at 7:30 a.m. for today's final round. Wiquist tees off at 1:50 p.m.
