The USC Beaufort baseball team's second weekend trip to Florida in two weeks already has been more successful than the first, as the Sand Sharks opened a three-game Sun Conference series at Northwood with a 5-2 victory Friday afternoon.
The Seahawks (12-8 overall, 3-4 Sun Conference) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a pair of unearned runs against Sand Sharks starter Adam Miller, but the junior left-hander allowed nothing more. Miller tossed his third consecutive complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out nine without issuing a walk.
The Sand Sharks (13-5, 4-3) got those two runs back in the third and took the lead for good with a run in the sixth off Northwood starter Jake Kutsukos, who allowed three runs on six hits over six innings to take the loss.
USCB tacked on two more in the seventh to finish off its second consecutive victory since snapping a four-game skid that started with a three-game sweep at the hands of Webber International last weekend.
