Another one slipped away in the late innings Tuesday, as the USC Beaufort baseball team lost its fourth consecutive game, falling to visiting Southern Wesleyan 5-4 in 10 innings at Hardeeville's Richard Gray Baseball Complex.
Aaron Plummer delivered the last of three consecutive singles off USCB reliever Weldon Smith in the 10th inning, driving home the eventual winning run for the Warriors.
The Sand Sharks (11-5) had the tying and winning runs in scoring position in the bottom of the 10th after Keifer Youmans' two-out double, but Mark Atkins induced a groundout from Ty Main to pick up the save.
The Warriors (9-8) built a 3-0 lead against Sand Sharks starter Stephen Richards, but USCB took the lead with four runs in the fifth. Southern Wesleyan tied it with an unearned run in the sixth and won it in the 10th.
Tyler Lollis and Jacob Wright had three hits apiece for Southern Wesleyan, and Nate Wright added a solo home run.
David O'Neil had two hits and drove in two runs for USCB.
The Sand Sharks have dropped four in a row since reeling off a 10-game winning streak. They have led in the fifth inning or later in each of the past three losses.
The teams play again today at 3 p.m.
