Sand Sharks' win streak halted by Webber International

Webber International's Ryan O'Gara cooled off USC Beaufort's red-hot lineup, and the Warriors snapped the Sand Sharks' 10-game winning streak with a 5-1 victory in the first game of their three-game Sun Conference series Friday in Babson Park, Fla.

O'Gara held the Sand Sharks (11-2, 3-1 Sun Conference) to one run on six hits, and he retired 10 consecutive batters after Conald Mansfield's RBI single gave USCB a 1-0 lead in the first. That streak was ended when O'Gara hit Gabe Torres with a pitch in the fourth, but Torres was caught stealing, stopping what might have been a big inning.

The Warriors (5-10, 2-5 Sun Conference) took the lead with two runs in the second, scoring on Hunter Ovens' RBI single and Tripp Merrell's RBI double.

The Sand Sharks' lone error helped open the door for Webber International's three-run seventh inning, in which Farrell's two-run single with the bases loaded broke it open.

Adam Miller, last week's Sun Conference pitcher of the week after shutting out Ave Maria, took the loss for the Sand Sharks, tossing an eight-inning complete game and allowing five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits.

The series concludes with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. today.
