On a windy day at Sea Island Golf Club, the USC Beaufort men's golf team shaved one shot off its opening-round score but still slipped to fourth place after the final round of the Coastal Georgia Men's Invitational in St. Simons Island, Ga.
The Sand Sharks posted a team score of 329 in Tuesday's final round, finishing the 36-hole event at 629 -- 10 shots behind champion Shorter, two back of Sun Conference rival SCAD Savannah and one shot behind host College of Coastal Georgia.
Jon Pannone (74-80--154) led the Sand Sharks, tying for fourth place. Luke McClellan (83-75--158), Jordan Carpenter (77-82--159), Jack Bingham (81-80--161) and George Thacker (83-79--162) rounded out the lineup.
It was a disappointing start for the Sand Sharks, who entered the spring season ranked No. 2 in the NAIA coaches poll after winning their last four events of the fall season.

The Sand Sharks are off until March 19-20, when they head to Daytona Beach for the Eagle Invitational hosted by Embry-Riddle.
