Sand Sharks roll to sweep of Fisher College

The USC Beaufort baseball team bounced back from a sour home opener with an impressive doubleheader sweep of visiting Fisher College on Saturday at Hardeeville's Richard Gray Baseball Complex.

Strong pitching carried the Sand Sharks (3-1) throughout the day, and the lineup began to show its potency in the second game, as USCB won the opener 5-0 and pounded the visitors from Massachusetts 14-2 in the nightcap.

Right-hander Dexter Price, a transfer from Auburn, made his USCB debut in Game 1, striking out eight in four scoreless innings for the win. Colton Rudd pitched three scoreless frames for his second save.

The Sand Sharks staked Price to a 3-0 lead in the second inning and added a pair of runs in the fifth. Four players had RBIs for USCB, including first baseman Spencer Jackson, who was 2 for 3.

The offense took over in Game 2, pounding 10 hits, including a three-run home run by outfielder Conald Mansfield, the Sand Sharks' first home run of the season. Jackson and Adam Gendall added two RBIs apiece.

The offensive outburst benefited freshman right-hander Stephen Richards, who allowed two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn his first career win.

The teams will play another doubleheader today, with the first game starting at noon.
