The USC Beaufort women's cross country team ran to a 12th-place finish Saturday in the Southeast Classic at Rome, Ga., a "huge improvement" from last season, according to coach Larry Kimball.
The Sand Sharks were 17th out of 22 teams in last year's meet, held in Louisville, Ky.
Indiana Wesleyan won this year's event, with Sun Conference member Embry-Riddle taking second.
Selena Hutson was the top Sand Shark, placing 35th out of 232 runners. Hutson's time was 19 minutes, 36 seconds.

The Sand Sharks are off until Nov. 6, when they host the Sun Conference championship at Sgt. Jasper Park in Hardeeville.
