The USC Beaufort cross country team competed in the Charlotte Invitational on Friday. The men's team finished in 12th place, led by Marshall Meyer's 32nd place finish in 25:50.
Tommy Reeves came in 70th in 26:46, Frank Tinsley was 86th in 27:10, John Stanas was 158th in 29:37 and Ian Evans was 164th in 30:04.
The women's team finished 20th with 121 points. Selena Hutson led the way, finishing 121st in 20:12. Katie Mock was 140th in 20:43, Vannica Williams was 123rd in 21:22, Kristine Grannan was 185th in 21:45 and Caitlin Howe was 195th in 22:05.
The times posted by Meyer and Hutson, both juniors, were school records.
"The good thing about freshmen and sophomores is they grow up to be juniors and seniors," USCB coach Larry Kimball said. "They're probably putting in 50 percent more miles per week now than they did then. Their work ethic is unbelievable and contagious throughout the whole team."
USCB will host the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 16 at Sgt. Jasper Park in Hardeeville. The race starts at 9 a.m.
