Beaufort weightlifter Dade Stanley set two Youth American records on Thursday night in the American Open at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nev.

Stanley was six for six on his lifts, finishing with an 83-kilogram snatch, a 105 kg clean and jerk and a 188 kg total. The clean and jerk and total were both 13-under American Youth records in the 69 kg weight class.

Stanley is a 13-year-old Beaufort Middle School student who has been lifting for two years.

He won a national championship at the 2015 USA Wrestling Youth Nationals and was the best overall lifter 13 or younger with a total lift of 161 kg, a total he improved by 27 kg on Thursday.

“Going into 2016, he has put himself in a strong position to make an international 14-15 age group team for (the U.S.),” Team Beaufort coach Ray Jones said.

C.J. Cummings, the 15-year-old Beaufort High sophomore who holds 20 American records, has a good chance at breaking some personal records when he lifts at 9:30 p.m. Friday night, according to Jones.
