Sudden-death playoffs decide Junior golf championships

A double-bogey in the 18th hole took Bluffton's Bryson Nimmer out of contention and Columbia's Jack Parrott won a sudden-death playoff with Christian Salzer of Sumter to claim the S.C. Golf Association Junior Championship on Thursday at Willow Creek Golf Club in Greer.

Inman's Trent Phillips captured the Boys 13-14 Division in a sudden-death playoff over Harry Reynolds of Greenville.

Late in the round, the lead at 6 under was shared by Salzer, Nimmer, Parrott and Christian Baliker. Salzer had carded a 66 to tie for the lead at 6 under and waited. Parrott made double bogey on No. 17 to fall two shots off the lead. As a result, Nimmer and Baliker came to 18 tied with Salzer for the lead.

Baliker made bogey, Nimmer made a double bogey and Parrott chipped in for eagle to tie Salzer. In the playoff, Parrott got up and down for birdie out of the greenside bunker to win.

Nimmer finished in a four-way tie for sixth and was part of a playoff for one of the final three spots for the Georgia-South Carolina Team Matches field of eight. Nimmer made bogey and fell to first alternate.

Bluffton's Trace Crowe, who finished tied for third at 4-under 211, made the squad.

Hilton Head Island's Will Miles, who started just outside the top 10 at 1 under, shot 4-over 76 to fall to 3 over. Hilton Head Island's Nick Russell finished at 2 over.

Bluffton's Drew Weary finished at 3 over, good for third in the Boys 13-14 division.
