South Carolina pitchers notch another shutout, blank Coastal Carolina

COLUMBIA -- Four pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout as second-ranked South Carolina tallied its 10th shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory over Coastal Carolina on Wednesday night.

Sophomore right-hander Curt Brit picked up his first win of the season after three scoreless innings of work. Junior right-hander Evan Beal made his first appearance of the year and hurled four hitless innings for the Gamecocks (21-3). Vince Fiori and Reed Scott pitched scoreless innings to close out the victory.

Marcus Mooney hit a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning for South Carolina. Brison Celek had an RBI double in the third, and D.C. Arendas had an RBI single in the fifth. Arendas was 2 for 4 on the night.

Coastal Carolina starter Dalton Moats (0-3) took the loss. He allowed three runs on five hits in three innings.

The Chanticleers drop to 10-15 on the year.

The Gamecocks are back in action on Friday night, beginning a three-game SEC series with Tennessee at Carolina Stadium.
