Clemson's Dabo Swinney to speak at Hilton Head Island High

Dabo Swinney is coming to Hilton Head Island to speak later this spring.

But it it's Xs and Os you're looking for, this may not be the talk for you.

The Church of the Cross is bringing the Clemson head football coach to Hilton Head Island High School at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4 for a program entitled "Dabo Swinney: The Power of Faith."

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in advance through TheChurchOfTheCross.net.

"We're doing a community outreach event with an emphasis on young people but open to all," said John Parker, The Church of the Cross' program coordinator for the event. "Coach Swinney is going to come and speak about his walk with the Lord."

He said he believes Swinney is a role model in a sports world where there isn't always a strong positive male adult influence for young people.

Parker said the church is expecting between 1,200 to 1,300 people to attend the event, which should last about an hour. They are also working with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to get area students into the event.

"We're expecting 300 to 400 students and the rest of the crowd will likely be adults," said Parker, who added that standing-room tickets may be sold on the day of the event should the demand warrant it.

Parker said he wouldn't be able to determine if the event was a success.

"The Lord will have to determine that, probably, not us," Parker said. "If the gym is full and there are 300 to 400 young people there who are excited and can walk away with the feeling that the Lord worked through Dabo's life and can work through theirs as well, that's be pretty good.
