Large turnout expected for Bluffton Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk

More than 300 runners are expected to be in downtown Bluffton on Saturday for the Weniger Plastic Surgery Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk.

The inaugural event will start at the Prominade and take runners down Bluffton roads, in the direction of Myrtle Island and Pine Island.

Both races start at 8 a.m. Runners will cover approximately 2 1/2 miles of the same course before the half marathon splits off into another direction.

Awards for the 5K race will be presented at approximately 9 a.m. Awards for the half marathon will follow that race. Headphones, bikes and in-line skates are prohibited. Baby-joggers are allowed for the 5K only.

Local musician Todd Cowart will provide live entertainment following both races.

Cost: $50 for the half marathon, $35 for the 5K run/walk

Packet pick-up: Today, 4-6 p.m. at Go Tri Sports, 33 Office Park Rd., Suite No. 3, Hilton Head Island; Race-day registration up until 7:30 a.m. at the Prominade

Parking: There is limited parking around the Prominade and adjacent streets. Additional parking is available on Goeth Road near the baseball fields.
