Parris Island set to host Swamp Romp

Billed as "The Lowcountry's Dirtiest Race," the MCRD Parris Island Swamp Romp promises to test each participant's stamina and then each runner's washing machine after it's over.

Event organizers say Saturday's obstacle course, a 5.1-mile loop, will be flat, sandy and very muddy.

Teams of up to six members and individuals will compete, with the top three finishers in each division earning medals. A perpetual plaque will be presented to the active-duty MCRD team who finishes in first place overall. For those running as a team, all members must have physical contact with a teammate as they cross the start and finish lines.

All participants must wear utility trousers or sweat pants. No shorts are allowed. While open to the general public, the race is only for ages 10 and older. Teams with runners between the ages of 10 and 14 must have at least one adult registered to run with the team.

Check-in begins at 6 a.m. on Saturday at the Field Training Facility.
