Performers of the week

Mykalah Smalls, Beaufort High volleyball -- Smalls had 29 kills, two blocks, four digs and one assist in the Eagles' tri-match split on Tuesday. The Eagles defeated West Ashley 31-29, 25-17 and lost 25-15, 25-20 to Summerville.

Kylie Nizolek, Bluffton golf -- The freshman shot an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors in Thursday's Region 7-AAA match at Berkeley. She also tied for medalist honors with a 37 in Tuesday's win over Hilton Head High.

Melissa Damas, HHH volleyball -- The senior setter kept up her recent pace with 22 assists, but she also added nine kills and 12 digs to lead Hilton Head High to a win against Hilton Head Prep.

Michael Bible, Beaufort Academy swimming -- Bible brought home the gold in the 100 backstroke and was part of the Eagles' winning 200 freestyle relay team, leading Beaufort Academy's boys to a second-place finish in the SCISAA Class 2-A state swim meet Saturday.

Following last week's come-from-behind win at Bluffton High School, Hilton Head High has flip-flopped spots with their counterparts from Region 7-AAA in the newest SC Coaches High School Volleyball Poll.

Released Monday, the poll ranks the Seahawks fifth in Class 3-A -- but they are also the top-ranked team in the Lower State. Bluffton fell two spots in the poll to No. 7, previously held by the Seahawks, yet the Bobcats are still the second-ranked team in the Lower State.

After dropping the first game of the match, Hilton Head High won Thursday's meeting in three games to remain unbeaten in region play. It marked Bluffton's first league loss.

The two teams are slated to meet again at Hilton Head High on Oct. 21.

In celebration of homecoming week, season tickets to Battery Creek High School home sporting events will be on sale at winter sports prices beginning Monday. The adult price will be reduced to $55 and the student price will drop to $30. Tickets are available for purchase in the front office. Season ticket holders will get into all home regular-season sporting events for the remainder of the 2010-11 school year.

The Dolphins will take on Region 7-AAA rival Bluffton High School for homecoming next Friday.
