F1 Lenovo Grand Prix du Canada 2026 Betting Guide

The Lenovo Grand Prix du Canada brings Formula 1 to Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, a 4.361-kilometer, 14-turn track that runs 70 laps around Montreal's Ile Notre-Dame. The layout has long rewarded drivers who can brake late, attack chicanes, ride curbs without unsettling the car, and stay precise near the walls.

Recent winners fit that profile: Max Verstappen won three straight Canadian Grands Prix from 2022 to 2024, George Russell won from pole in 2025, and Lewis Hamilton remains tied with Michael Schumacher for the event record with seven wins.

The 2026 rules make this race less of a straight comparison to past Montreal results. Straight Mode replaces the old DRS-style framework, and Canada has three designated Straight Mode zones, while Overtake Mode activates out of the final chicane onto the start/finish straight. The recent regulation refinements also changed energy management, capped race boost at +150 kW, and limited MGU-K deployment outside key acceleration zones.

That should put extra weight on traction out of slow corners, braking stability, energy use down long straights, and how well teams manage cooling on one of the season's heavier braking tracks.

Practice, Sprint, Qualifying and Weather

Kimi Antonelli led the lone practice session, with George Russell second and Lewis Hamilton third, giving Mercedes the strongest early read at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Russell carried that pace into Saturday, winning the Sprint ahead of Lando Norris and Antonelli, while Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc and Hamilton followed in the top six.

Qualifying kept Mercedes at the front. Russell took pole with a 1:12.578 time, beating Antonelli by 0.068 seconds after a bit of Mercedes-on-Mercedes controversy during the Sprint. Norris qualified third, Piastri fourth and Hamilton fifth, while Max Verstappen starts sixth after struggling to match the Mercedes and McLaren pace.

Weather could still affect Sunday's race. The 4 p.m. ET start currently looks cool and cloudy, with temperatures around 51 degrees, but showers are forecasted for later in the race window. That keeps wet-weather strategy, tire warmup, and safety car risk in play, especially if rain arrives after teams commit to their opening race plan.

George Russell Race Winner (+135)

Despite the dust-up during the Sprint, Russell was strong in the prerace sessions, and his primary competition will be Antonelli with the way everything is shaping up for Montreal. Between his form this week and racing history here, he earns the benefit of the doubt. Last year, Russell won from pole position and raced to a third-place result in 2024 off pole, so he has a strong recent record to go on.

Winning Team: Mercedes (-300)

This is about as close to easy money as you'll find among the Montreal wagers, with a Mercedes win seemingly a lock. Of course, nothing is a guarantee, but this is close. It may not be a big payout, but money is money!

Double-Podium Finish: Mercedes (-150)

Much like the previous wager, it's difficult to go wrong betting on two of the three podium spots going to the most dominant team in the field, which happens to be starting atop the grid.

Fastest Lap: Kimi Antonelli (+260)

While the team may make the call for Antonelli to take a back seat to Russell in terms of winning the race, that doesn't mean he won't race hard or that his setup can't post the fastest lap. Antonelli led the practice session at 1:13.402, and Russell topped him by just 0.068s in qualifying. There's a little added incentive to push his teammate after the Sprint shenanigans, too.

Winning Margin: Under 6 Seconds (-125)

In the last 10 races here, the winning separation was 5.702 seconds, but only three of the margins were greater than the six-second mark. Since the two skipped pandemic races, we have a winning margin of more than 3.879s just once in four runs. Wet weather could complicate this bet.
