Mets Could Get Key Utility Man Back by Next Homestand
As the New York Mets continue to piece together their lineup amid their injury woes, they could get one key bat back ahead of their next homestand.
Speaking with reporters before their game against the Miami Marlins on Saturday, manager Carlos Mendoza said that there's a "good chance" that Jared Young (meniscus tear) could return to the Mets' lineup as soon as their next homestand.

Young, who signed a one-year deal with the Mets in the offseason, suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee on April 15 and had to undergo surgery.
Prior to his injury, Young was producing nicely for New York after making the Opening Day Roster due to a strong spring. In 11 games, the 30-year-old went 7-for-20 (.350) at the plate with two RBI and posted an OPS of .841.
Young's versatility was also on full display for the Amazins', appearing in five games at first base, three in left field, two in right field, and starting one game as the DH.
It goes without saying that the Mets have been decimated by injuries in their disappointing 2026 campaign thus far. Aside from Young, the club is also without Francisco Lindor (right calf strain), Luis Robert Jr. (lumbar spine disc herniation), Jorge Polanco (Achilles, wrist), Ronny Mauricio (broken thumb), and Francisco Álvarez, who also suffered a torn meniscus.
The Mets have had to turn to some of their top prospects, calling up A.J. Ewing and Nick Morabito to try and light a spark for an offense that has been very inconsistent throughout the season.
New York is now hoping that with the pending return of Young, the veteran could pick up right where he left off with the bat. Young could help a Mets team that enters Saturday in last place in the National League East, and who are also losers of three out of their last four.
