Because I am chairman of the Beaufort County Democratic Party, I am an admitted strong advocate for Democratic candidates.
But I am also a believer that the only way government can be successful is to have office holders working together for the betterment of all.
I was sickened to see an ad in the paper, paid for by the Greater Bluffton Republican Party, coupling President Obama with Ebola in a crossword puzzle. How gross can things become?
The First Amendment notwithstanding, shame on the paper for publishing it. The right-winger Ann Coulter was recently on Fox News blaming the Democrats' successes in recent elections on their "bringing in ringers" (i.e. immigrants) to win elections.
She also blamed a "massive issue of election fraud" for Democrats' successes, but no fraud exists. Bogus photo ID requirements are another Republican attempt to disenfranchise the young, seniors and minorities.
Then we have the state's senior U.S. senator, Lindsey Graham, who in a recent speech singled out "white men who are in male-only clubs" as worthy of serving in his "presidency," while, in the same speech, blasted Baptists.
Let's see, we have Republicans on record who are anti-immigrant, anti-women, anti-gay, anti-government, anti-minority, anti-Baptist, anti-young, anti-senior, anti-quality health care for all and anti-Medicaid expansion.
Is this how the Republican Party, of a great and noble heritage, plans to become ascendant in the next decade? What happened to your statesmen in the mold of Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower, Bob Dole, and yes, even George H.W. Bush?
