There is a sad irony to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources pulling a permit for failing to follow a protocol. To threaten a man's livelihood for taking a singular action smacks of bureaucratic bullying.
The irony is that if DNR really wanted lockstep, mindless adherence to protocols, then it would have paid for the removal of the two sunken shrimp boats in Jarvis Creek rather than sticking the taxpayers of Hilton Head with the bill.
