Hospice Care of the Lowcountry thanks Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head

Hospice Care of the Lowcountry is grateful for the Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head and its generous grant in support of our annual youth bereavement camp, Camp TLC.

Children at Camp TLC meet for a day, carrying the memory of a loved one who has died. Death is real to these children. They know a life lesson that most children can't relate to.

The camp is offered every fall (this year on Oct. 26) for children ages 6 to 16 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Children grieve differently from adults. Through story sharing, role playing, art and music therapy and physical activity, they express their thoughts about the death. They are friends for a day because they grieve together. They learn they can be sad and still have fun. They learn it's OK. We celebrate the hope that life goes on. We remember life and happiness.

Hospice Care of the Lowcountry delivers health care and related services to persons in the final phase of a terminal illness. As the only independent, nonprofit, Medicare-certified hospice in Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton counties, we have been serving the community for 31 years and are committed to helping those with life-defining illnesses.

Thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head for all of its hard work raising funds for our community through the Chili Cookoff and Rib Burnoff events. Without their help and contribution, we would not be able to fulfill our mission in this community.
