Gambling laws need change in SC

I read with dismay the editorial on July 7 ("Pay closer attention to gambling proposal") regarding the gambling laws in South Carolina.

I happen to be one of those women who like to play mah-jongg and canasta in Sun City Hilton Head. We have three beautiful clubhouses with gorgeous views and we cannot use the rooms to play games such as mah-jongg because, even though we don't play for money, the game uses dice.

I find it ridiculous that we can't enjoy a game of mah-jongg in our clubhouse when there is no money involved. How absurd.

My friends and I have written to both state Rep. Bill Herbkersman and state Sen. Tom Davis, asking them to amend state gambling laws so that we can get together to play games when there is no money involved and no alcohol.

I just can't understand what the fuss is about. Don't the police have better things to do?
